The Uncompaghre Plateau and Valley is the winter home for one of the largest populations of mule deer in Colorado with the highest density on the southern end - 85 deer per square mile.

Mule deer are site specific; that is, they travel to the same areas to winter, water, fawn, and summer, generation after generation. If they are prevented from doing so, the herds decline.

Concerned citizens coming together to preserve habitat and corridors surrounding the northwestern San Juan Mountains.
